How to read a Dota 2 match result

A Dota 2 result counts maps won, and the format decides what a scoreline can be. The big number on each row is the series result, so 2–1 means the winner took two maps and dropped one. Each map is a single game, played until one side destroys the other's Ancient, so there is no round score underneath it. Open a row to see who won each map, in the order they were played.

That order is worth reading. A 2–1 where the winner dropped the opening map and came back is a different series from one where they won the first two and only lost a dead third, and the series result alone cannot tell them apart.

FormatPossible resultsWhat it tells you
BO11–0One game decided it, so there was no way back.
BO22–0 or 1–1Both games are always played. 2–0 is a clean win, and 1–1 is a draw, which the row labels Draw.
BO32–0 or 2–12–0 is a sweep. 2–1 means the series went to a deciding third map.
BO53–0, 3–1 or 3–2The grand final format. 3–2 went the full distance.

Why can a Dota 2 series end in a draw?

A Dota 2 series can end in a draw because a best-of-two always plays both maps. Organisers use the format in round-robin group stages, where every map won counts toward the group table, so a 1–1 still separates teams and needs no decider. A draw on this page is a finished result, not missing data. Each organiser sets its own format and its own points for a draw, so the event's published rules are the final word. Valve runs The International and publishes its news on the official Dota 2 site.

Reading team form from results

A run of results says more once you read the context around each one. Start with the event: a series at The International or a Major is played against teams that have already qualified through their region, while a regional league or qualifier can include stand-in rosters. Then look at the opponent, because a 2–0 over the bottom of a regional table tells you less than a 2–1 defeat to a team that went on to win the event.

Read how each series ended, too. A team that keeps going to a third map is level with its opponents, and a run of best-of-two draws in a group points the same way, while a string of sweeps points to a real gap. Once you have a read on form, the Dota 2 betting odds show how the market sees the next series.

Finding a result

Search for a team or an event to find one series fast. The event filter narrows the archive to The International, the Majors, DreamLeague, ESL One or the regional leagues, and the From and To dates hold it to a window, such as one week of a tournament. Today lists the series that have already finished today, and the format filter separates best-of-twos from longer series.

Every date is shown in your own timezone, and the control above the results switches to another. Catching up on a VOD? Turn on Hide scores. The results stay listed with their events and dates, but the scores, the winners and the map winners are covered until you turn it off.

The tier badge on each event is the one the matches board uses, set by the event rather than the teams playing in it. What each tier means is set out on the Dota 2 matches page.

The archive fills as finished series are recorded with their final results. There are none in it right now.

Where can I see today's Dota 2 matches?

How soon are results added after a series ends?

A series appears once BO5's data feed records its final result, and this page rebuilds from the archive every two minutes. Most of the wait after the last game is the feed, not the page.

Which Dota 2 events are included?

Every Dota 2 event in BO5's feed: The International, the Majors, DreamLeague, ESL One, the regional leagues and their qualifiers, and other pro tournaments. Qualifiers count as regional play, whichever event they feed. If a series you expected is missing, contact us and we will check the feed.
