League of Legends Betting: How It Works And Where It's Legal

League of Legends betting means placing a wager on a professional LoL match through a licensed sportsbook, most often on the series winner or a map handicap. Legality depends entirely on where you live. This guide covers the markets, how prices are set, and what to check before you bet.

Yes, at licensed sportsbooks that carry esports, and whether that is available to you depends entirely on where you live. League is one of the most widely covered esports, so the question is rarely whether a market exists. It is whether a book licensed in your jurisdiction offers it to you.

Esports betting is regulated as sports betting in most places that permit it at all, which means the same licensing regime, the same age limits and the same geo-restrictions apply. A book can carry a deep LoL board and still refuse your account because of where you are. That is the normal case rather than an edge case. More on the competitive scene itself sits on the LoL hub.

Do mainstream sportsbooks cover LoL?

Some do, but coverage is uneven and it is worth understanding the categories rather than chasing a brand name. Four kinds of platform carry something on League, and they differ more than they look.

Type of platformWhat its LoL coverage usually looks like
Mainstream regulated sportsbooksUsually carry the series winner on the biggest events only, and often nothing at all on regional play.
Esports-native sportsbooksThe deepest LoL coverage, including in-game markets and lower-tier leagues, but licensing and availability vary widely.
Prediction marketsTrade contracts on an outcome rather than taking a bet. Regulated differently, and coverage of esports is narrow.
DFS and player-props platformsPrice individual player or game statistics rather than the match result. Availability is jurisdiction-dependent.

Two things drive the variation. The first is event tier: almost everything that carries LoL at all carries the biggest international events, and far less carries a regional league day. The second is jurisdiction, because the same operator offers different markets in different countries. We name no operator on this page and rank nothing, so the way to answer it for yourself is to check the book's own licensing disclosure and its esports section directly.

How the rules differ by country

The variation has a shape worth knowing even though the detail changes constantly. Most countries license betting nationally, so one regulator decides what is offered. The United States licenses state by state instead, which is why a market can be available in one state and absent in the next. Minimum age is usually 18 but is 21 in many US states. Operators geo-restrict on top of all of it, so a site that is legal where you are may still not accept you.

This page does not give legal advice and carries no per-jurisdiction list, because any list would be wrong within months. Check your local regulator, and check the licensing disclosure the operator publishes in its own footer.

How League of Legends betting works

You are betting on the outcome of a professional match, most often on which team wins the series. Everything else on a LoL board is a variation on that: a smaller unit than the series, a margin applied to it, or a number the game produces along the way.

The markets you will see

MarketWhat it settles onWhat makes it move
Series winnerWhich team wins the match overall.Roster changes, recent form, and which side of a bracket a team came through.
Map or game winnerA single game inside the series.Draft, side selection, and the result of the previous game.
HandicapThe series result with a game start applied to one side. How far apart the two teams are priced on the outright.
Total gamesWhether the series runs the full distance.Series format, and how evenly the two sides are matched.
First blood, first towerWhich team takes the first kill or the first tower in a game.Early-game champion picks and how aggressively each side tends to open.
Total kills, game durationA number rather than a winner. The patch, and whether the meta rewards fighting or scaling.

One thing separates League from Counter-Strike or Valorant here. League is played on a single map, so a series is counted in games rather than maps, and there is no map-veto phase to price around. What changes between games is the draft, which is why the same two teams can produce a one-sided game and a close one back to back.

How to read the odds

A decimal price is what a winning unit stake returns in total, stake included, so 1.50 returns one and a half times what you put on. Divide 1 by the price for the rough implied probability: 1.50 is about 67 percent. Those are illustrative numbers rather than current prices. The two sides always add to more than 100 percent, and that overhang is the book's margin. Live LoL odds covers this properly, including what the board's own market figures mean.

How the LoL season affects the markets

Market depth follows the league calendar, so the same team is priced deeply during its split and thinly outside it. This matters more in League than in esports that run continuous circuits.

Professional League is organised into regional leagues that run their own splits and then send teams to shared international events. While a major league is playing, its matches attract the widest coverage and the most markets per match. Between splits the same teams may not be priced at all, and what remains on a board is whatever is still playing.

Worth being plain about what that means day to day: most of what appears on a live LoL board at any given moment is regional and academy competition rather than tier-one league play, because those competitions run year-round while the major leagues do not. Books have less data on those teams, which is why prices on them are wider and more lopsided. You can see what is actually scheduled on the LoL match schedule.

What to look for in a LoL betting site

Judge a site on criteria you can verify yourself rather than on any ranking, including ours. We name no operators and rate none, so what follows is what to check.

Start with the licence. A regulated operator publishes its licence number and issuing regulator, and that regulator maintains a public register you can search independently. If you cannot find the licence, or the register does not list it, that answers the question. Then look at esports depth: whether LoL appears as its own section rather than buried under a generic esports tab, and crucially whether regional leagues are covered at all or only the international events.

After that, the practical terms. Whether live markets stay open during a game, how withdrawals are processed and how long they take, and what the terms attach to any promotional balance. The clearest red flags are an operator that will not say who licenses it, one whose withdrawal terms are harder to find than its signup offer, and any site presenting itself as a place to wager League skins. Our CS2 betting guide covers the same ground for Counter-Strike.

Betting on LoL responsibly

Betting is for adults only. The minimum age is 18 in most jurisdictions that permit it and 21 in many US states, and no licensed operator will let you register below it.

BO5 displays prices from tracked providers and does not accept bets. We are not a bookmaker, we hold no funds, and we take no position on which operator you should use.

No esports result is predictable, and most people who bet lose money over time. That is a structural feature rather than bad luck: every price carries a margin in the book's favour, and it applies to every bet you place. Treat anything you stake as spent. If betting stops feeling like entertainment, free and confidential support is available from BeGambleAware.

League of Legends Betting Questions

Does BO5 take bets on League of Legends?

No. BO5 displays prices from tracked providers and does not accept bets or act as a bookmaker.

Can you bet LoL skins?

No. League of Legends skins are account-bound: Riot does not allow them to be traded, transferred or resold between accounts, and gifting works only as a fresh purchase for someone else rather than a transfer of something you already own. There is therefore no LoL skin economy to wager, and the item-gambling ecosystem that exists around Counter-Strike and Dota 2 has no League equivalent. Any site offering LoL "skin betting" is not doing what it claims. Riot sets this out in its terms of service.

Can you make money betting on League of Legends?

Most bettors lose money over time. Every price a book publishes includes a margin in its favour, which is why the implied probabilities of the two sides add up to more than 100 percent. That margin is charged on every bet, so it compounds the more you place rather than averaging out. Beyond that, no esports result is predictable: rosters change, patches change what teams are good at, and a single draft can decide a game. This page gives no tips and makes no claims about finding value.

Which LoL leagues have the deepest betting markets?

The major regional leagues and the international events they feed into carry the deepest markets and the tightest prices. Regional and academy competitions carry thinner markets and wider prices. You can see which are running on the LoL match schedule.

Do I need to know LoL to bet on it?

Knowing the series format and which league a match belongs to helps you read what a price is saying, and the markets table above covers what each bet settles on. It does not make outcomes predictable, and no amount of familiarity with the game changes the margin built into the price.

What is a prediction market or props platform, and is it the same as betting?

They are different products. A prediction market lets people trade contracts that settle on whether an event happens, so the price moves with what traders collectively think rather than being set by a bookmaker. A props or daily-fantasy platform prices individual player or game statistics instead of the match result. Both are regulated differently from a sportsbook in most jurisdictions, and in some places one is available where the others are not. Readers increasingly land on these products while looking for LoL odds, so it is worth knowing which one you are on. We do not rank or recommend any of them.
