FanDuel Esports Review: Sportsbook, Esports Markets and Record

FanDuel is a US sportsbook licensed in 24 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico, and in Ontario and Alberta, with an app widely rated the best in the country. Its esports page centres on simulated sports such as eBasketball, with the major esports titles reported only around big tournaments. In the other 26 states, the same app offers FanDuel Predicts, a federally regulated prediction market whose legality several states dispute.

FanDuel's own map of where each product runs was read on 15 October 2026, and the regulatory record and every other figure below were checked on 21 October 2026. We update them as often as we can.

Is FanDuel legitimate?

FanDuel is a legitimate, licensed sportsbook, licensed in 24 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico and in Ontario and Alberta, and run by Betfair Interactive US, part of Flutter Entertainment. Flutter reports it as the leading US sportsbook, with 39% of sportsbook gross gaming revenue in its states in the second quarter of 2026. Its record is mostly fines for taking bets on events outside a state's approved catalogue, plus one action of a different kind in Nevada.

Nevada is the row that matters. On 12 November 2025 the Nevada Gaming Control Board accepted the surrender of Flutter's Nevada registration and every related licence and approval, including FanDuel's licence to provide an information service. FanDuel did not run a sportsbook there. The board said it had been told that FanDuel and DraftKings intended to engage in "unlawful activities related to sports event contracts", which it called "incompatible with their ability to participate in Nevada's gaming industry". A FanDuel spokesperson called it "the difficult decision to voluntarily surrender our license" and said FanDuel hoped to resume its Nevada efforts. FanDuel's own map now lists Nevada as a FanDuel Predicts state.

The money in the rest of the record is modest. Massachusetts' Gaming Commission has fined FanDuel several times since December 2024, from $10,000 for three bets totalling $11 on Boston College's NCAA tournament markets, which FanDuel reported itself, to $20,000 for bets on Belarusian soccer outside the approved catalogue. Iowa's regulator fined it $125,000 in July 2025, partly for bets on unapproved events and partly for failing to keep responsible-gaming tools working, and a further $95,000 in July 2026. New Jersey's $5,000 penalty, reported in October 2026, was for not complying with a directive during a suspicious-betting investigation.

Nevada is a licence-level action, but in one state, and the rubric's severe-record cap needs three, so no cap applies. Every sportsbook licence FanDuel holds remains in place.

Customers are harsher than regulators. FanDuel's US profile on Trustpilot scored 1.2 out of 5 when we checked on 21 October 2026, with most of the reviews recent. Complaint sites draw unhappy customers more than happy ones, so read it as a signal about how disputes feel rather than as a measure of whether FanDuel pays.

FanDuel Sportsbook and FanDuel Predicts

FanDuel runs one app, and which product it gives you depends on the state you are standing in. Where a state licenses sports betting, it is FanDuel Sportsbook. Everywhere else it is FanDuel Predicts. In FanDuel's own words, "FanDuel is available nationwide, though what you can access depends on where you are."

FanDuel is unusually direct that these are not the same thing. Asked whether Predicts is the same as sports betting, its FAQ answers: "No. They're two different products under two different regulatory structures." The two use separate wallets, and the first time you trade on Predicts you answer questions about your financial condition and trading experience, which the CFTC requires. "If you travel between a Sportsbook state and a Predicts state, the app opens the experience available where you are."

Predicts does not carry sports in every one of those 26 states. Flutter lists sports event contracts in 18 of them, so eight get no sports at all, and FanDuel's support pages say Predicts itself is open in all 50 states and Washington DC. Flutter has told investors that prediction markets bring sports markets to roughly 40% of the US population who cannot use an online regulated sportsbook. FanDuel also runs daily fantasy, an online casino in five states and horse racing, which this review does not cover.

FanDuel Predicts lists event contracts on exchanges the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulates, so it runs under federal rules rather than state sportsbook licences. Its sports contracts have come from Crypto.com's OG Prediction Markets since summer 2026, and its financial contracts from CME Group, which stopped adding sports contracts on 11 September 2026. FanDuel registered as a futures commission merchant in its own right in October 2026. Whether states can still regulate sports contracts is disputed. The CFTC claims exclusive jurisdiction and in April 2026 sued Arizona, Connecticut and Illinois. The Ninth Circuit on 28 August 2026 and the Sixth Circuit on 25 September 2026 held that states may regulate sports event contracts, after the Third Circuit had sided with Kalshi against New Jersey. Nevada's board treats them as wagering, which is why FanDuel gave up its Nevada licence. The question is not settled. We describe Predicts so you know which product you are seeing, and we do not link to it.

How prediction markets differ from a sportsbook in general is covered under prediction markets and US law.

Which product each state gets will be set out on our FanDuel states page.

Esports coverage

FanDuel's esports page is mostly simulated sports. On 21 October 2026 it listed three categories, eBasketball, eFootball and eSoccer, and its eBasketball games, from the H2H GG League, carried spread, moneyline and total markets with live betting and a stream label. League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant and Dota 2 are reported by others around major tournaments, but none was on the page when we captured it. That is fewer titles and fewer markets per event than DraftKings or bet365.

FanDuel's fines and its esports menu come from the same mechanism. Every state publishes a catalogue of the events a sportsbook may take bets on, and most of FanDuel's Massachusetts fines were for bets on events outside it. Esports reaches a state's FanDuel app only once that state's catalogue includes it, which is why esports markets appear in one state and not in the next.

Unlike DraftKings, FanDuel publishes no list of the states where it offers esports, so the availability table shows each state's own rule. FanDuel Predicts is not an esports option, whatever its app lists, and we do not present it as one.

Sign-up offers

FanDuel's sign-up offer changes from state to state, so we do not print one until we have checked the terms for a given state. When you look at it, check the qualifying stake and odds, when any bonus bets expire, and whether they can be placed on esports markets at all, because esports often sits outside an offer's eligible events.

Offers for FanDuel Predicts, daily fantasy and the casino are separate, and this review does not cover them.

Withdrawals and stake limits

FanDuel pays winning bets as a condition of its state licences, and each state's regulator takes disputes about it. Withdrawals are widely reported as fast. To withdraw, you request it from the account's withdrawal page to a method you have verified, usually the one you deposited with, and the time it takes depends on that method.

Debit cards and bank transfer

PayPal and other e-wallets

Stake limits on winning accounts

FanDuel's Massachusetts house rules, filed with the Gaming Commission, let it decline bets or scale back stakes for an individual customer at its sole discretion, and bettors in community threads describe limits on accounts that win regularly. A stake limit changes what you can bet next, not your right to withdraw what you already hold. Across the books we review, DraftKings and bet365 work the same way, Betway restricts on grounds its terms list, Cloudbet reviews winning accounts at length, and Pinnacle says it does not limit winners at all. For an esports bettor who expects to win, that comparison matters more than any sign-up offer.

Withdrawal times

We have not yet re-checked FanDuel's withdrawal windows method by method, so we do not print them. Whatever the method, a withdrawal waits while identity checks are incomplete or while it is flagged for review, so verify the account before you need the money. If a payout is held without a clear reason, your state regulator is the next step after FanDuel's support.

Pinnacle's position is set out in its winners-welcome policy.

DraftKings' discretion, from its own house rules, is under DraftKings stake limits.

bet365 limits stakes in a similar way, as covered under its stake limits section.

Betway's stated grounds are in why Betway accounts get restricted.

Cloudbet's process for a winning account is in its integrity review section.

Where FanDuel Sportsbook is available

Outside the US, FanDuel Sportsbook runs only in Ontario and Alberta, Canada's two provinces with their own regulated markets, at 19 and 18 respectively. In the US it is live in 24 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico, as FanDuel's own map showed on 15 October 2026, and you must be physically inside one of them to bet. In the other 26 states the app offers FanDuel Predicts instead, so no state has neither product, unlike DraftKings, which leaves several with neither. Esports appears only where the state's catalogue includes it, and the table shows what we have confirmed for each state.

VPNs and location checks

FanDuel checks where you are whenever you bet, and the app switches between the sportsbook and Predicts as you cross a state line. Using a VPN or similar tool to appear in a sportsbook state breaches FanDuel's terms, and an account caught doing it can be restricted or closed.

Launch dates, regulators and helplines for each state will be on our FanDuel states page.

Who FanDuel suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit if

  • You want the best-rated US betting app.
  • You bet sports first and esports now and then, at major events.
  • You are in a state where FanDuel Sportsbook is licensed.
  • You want a state regulator to take a dispute to.

Look elsewhere if

  • Esports is your main interest.
  • You want esports streams or deep per-map markets.
  • You bet to win and expect no stake limits.
  • You are in a state where only FanDuel Predicts runs.

FanDuel questions

Is FanDuel legit?

FanDuel is a legitimate sportsbook licensed by state regulators in 24 US states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico, and operated by Betfair Interactive US, part of Flutter Entertainment. Its regulatory record is mostly small fines for accepting bets on events outside states' approved catalogues, in Massachusetts, Iowa and New Jersey. The most significant action was in Nevada, where in November 2025 the gaming regulator accepted the surrender of FanDuel's licence, saying its planned prediction-market activity was incompatible with Nevada's gaming industry. FanDuel did not run a sportsbook in Nevada and described the surrender as voluntary.

Is FanDuel Predicts the same as FanDuel Sportsbook?

No. FanDuel Sportsbook is a state-licensed sportsbook available in 24 states plus DC and Puerto Rico. FanDuel Predicts is a prediction market offering event contracts through exchanges the CFTC regulates, Crypto.com's OG Prediction Markets for sports and CME Group for financial contracts, and it is what FanDuel offers in the other 26 states. FanDuel itself describes them as "two different products under two different regulatory structures", with separate wallets. States and federal appeals courts disagree on whether states can regulate sports prediction contracts, and that question is not settled.

How old do you have to be to use FanDuel?

FanDuel Sportsbook requires you to be 21, except in Washington DC and Wyoming, where the minimum is 18. FanDuel Predicts is open from 18, according to FanDuel's own support pages. Check the age shown in the app for your state.

Does FanDuel really pay out?

Yes. As a state-licensed sportsbook it has to pay winning bets, and each state's regulator handles disputes. Withdrawal speed depends on your method, and like other large sportsbooks it may limit the stakes of customers who win consistently.

Do you pay tax on FanDuel winnings?

In the US, gambling winnings are taxable income and must be reported on your tax return, whether or not you receive a tax form. Sportsbooks issue Form W-2G for certain larger winnings and may withhold federal income tax on them, and state income tax may also apply. How much you pay depends on your total income, your state and your deductible losses, so there is no single figure for a $10,000 win. Losses are deductible only if you itemize, and from 2026 the deduction is limited to 90% of your losses and cannot exceed your winnings, according to IRS Publication 505. The IRS sets out the rules in Topic No. 419, Gambling Income and Losses. This is general information, not tax advice.

Which is better for esports, DraftKings or FanDuel?

For esports specifically, DraftKings is the stronger of the two, with Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends and Valorant league pages, while FanDuel's esports page centred on eBasketball, eFootball and eSoccer when we checked. FanDuel's app is generally rated the better product overall, and both depend on your state approving esports. Our DraftKings and FanDuel reviews set out the differences.

Which esports can you bet on at FanDuel?

On 21 October 2026 FanDuel's esports page listed eBasketball, eFootball and eSoccer, with live betting on eBasketball. League of Legends and Counter-Strike 2 are reported around major tournaments, and availability depends on your state's approved catalogue of events.

Betting responsibly

Betting is entertainment with a cost, not a way to make money, and every market on this page is priced so the book keeps a margin. You must be 18 or older to bet, and 21 or older in some markets. Set a deposit limit before you place a first bet rather than after a losing run, and use the operator's own limit and self-exclusion tools if you need them. If betting has stopped feeling optional, GamCare, BeGambleAware and Gambling Therapy all offer free confidential support.

In any US state, 1-800-GAMBLER offers free, confidential support by phone or text.

Set FanDuel beside the other books

FanDuel's case is the best-rated app in the US and a sportsbook licensed state by state, with a thin esports menu. To see how today's matches are priced across the books BO5 tracks, open the live esports odds, or go back to the esports betting sites we cover to compare FanDuel with the rest.
