Betway Esports Review: Coverage, Licence and Account Rules

Yes. Betway is a heavily regulated operator, run by Betway Limited in Malta under the Super Group listed in New York, and it holds licences from the UK Gambling Commission, the Malta Gaming Authority and regulators in Germany, Ireland and Ontario. It also has a regulatory record a reader should know about, set out in the table below.

On 12 March 2020 the UK Gambling Commission required Betway Limited to pay £11.6 million, a record at the time, for anti-money-laundering and social-responsibility failings involving seven high-spending customers between 2014 and 2019. The Commission found that Betway let £5.8 million that was, or could reasonably be suspected to be, the proceeds of crime flow through the business, failed to check the source of funds of a customer who deposited more than £8 million and lost more than £4 million over four years, and did not interact with a customer who deposited and lost £187,000 in two days. It said the failures showed little regard for the welfare of its VIP customers. The settlement was paid, and the licence was neither suspended nor revoked.

The record since then is smaller. In September 2022 the Commission fined Betway £408,915 after its logo appeared on children's pages of West Ham United's website. Sweden's regulator fined it over bonus offers in 2019 and 2021 before Betway left the Swedish market in 2024, and Spain's regulator closed an advertising case for €6,000 in 2022.

The licence also gives you something an offshore book cannot. A UK-licensed operator must offer an approved independent dispute service once its own complaints process is exhausted, and the Malta register lists eCOGRA as Betway's. A book licensed only in Curaçao or Anjouan has no equivalent.

Both halves come from the same fact. Tier-one regulation means stronger recourse, and it also means enforcement gets published. The record above is visible because the regulator behind it exists.

Betway prices Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant, plus Overwatch, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege and StarCraft II. On 17 October 2026 its UK esports page led with the TP World Championship and Pulse Beat in Counter-Strike, the Demacia Cup and World Championship in League of Legends, and VCT Champions in Valorant, with a Watch button on the most popular matches. In our own testing the page is hard to navigate by game: its tabs sort by time, not by title, and a separate E-Leagues menu sits beside Esports in the sports list.

The depth has a history behind it. Betway has sponsored ESL Pro League, IEM Katowice and BLAST in past seasons, along with teams including PSG.LGD and BIG, and it has run its own esports video channel. A book that has paid to be part of the circuit tends to price it properly.

Betway's offer depends on the market you sign up in. In the UK its terms set out a bet £10, get £40 in free bets offer: deposit by debit card within seven days of registering, place a pre-event single of £10 at odds of 2.0 or longer, and receive four £10 tokens for bet builders and accumulators of four or more legs at odds of 4.0 or longer, each expiring after seven days.

In-play, starting-price and virtual bets do not qualify. Other Betway markets run different offers, so read the terms on the site for your country before you deposit. Betway also runs casino offers, which this review does not cover.

Betway is a fiat book. In the UK you can pay in by debit card, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Trustly, bank transfer and Apple Pay, and withdrawals are reported at around a day for e-wallets and up to several business days for cards and bank transfers. A withdrawal only moves once your account is fully verified.

Betway runs separate licensed sites market by market, so where it accepts you depends on which site you are on. Each one registers only its own market: the UK sign-up form offers no country choice at all. Betway has also left markets it used to serve, including US sportsbooks in 2024, Sweden in September 2024 and Portugal in January 2026, and it does not operate in the Netherlands or Belgium.

That split means "restricted" sometimes means a local Betway exists instead. Germany, Ireland, Spain and Ontario each have a locally licensed Betway site, and South Africa is served by betway.co.za, which Super Group reports inside a separate Africa business.

If your country is not served, the registration form will not let you in, and that is where to stop. This review gives no guidance on getting around a restriction.

No cap applies. The 2020 UK case was a settlement with the licence left in place, not an active prohibition, so it lowers the licence score rather than capping the total. The platform score and part of the payout score come from our own testing in October 2026, and odds value is not yet assessed, so its weight is spread across the other criteria.
