How CS2 skin prices work
A CS2 skin's price is set by supply and demand on each marketplace, and five things drive it: rarity, exterior and float, StatTrak™ or Souvenir quality, how many copies exist, and where it is sold.
| Price driver | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Covert skins drop in about 0.64% of case openings, so they cost far more than Mil-Spec skins from the same case. Rarity tiers explained |
| Exterior and float | Factory New copies usually cost the most. Some skins can't reach every exterior: the AWP | Asiimov starts at 0.18 float, so no Factory New exists. |
| StatTrak™ and Souvenir | StatTrak™ is about 1 in 10 case drops and usually costs more. Souvenirs can be historical package drops or converted weapons; their tournament provenance matters. |
| Supply | Cases that leave the weekly drop pool stop adding new copies, which can push older skins up over time. |
| Where it's sold | Steam Market balances can't be cashed out, so Steam prices usually sit above the cheapest third-party total. BO5's median Steam premium is 32.7%.How it is calculatedMedian of (Steam ask / lowest fee-inclusive third-party price - 1), using the same skin, exterior, quality and phase. Only standard-quality states with at least 20 listings qualify; Steam's all-phase Doppler quote is never compared to one phase. Data through 2026-11-03. |

How BO5 lists prices
- Prices come from each marketplace's own data feed, plus the Steam Community Market. BO5 tracks White.market and the Steam Market.
- “You pay” includes each marketplace's buyer fee.
- Rows are sorted by the total you pay. Partner status never changes the order.
- Each row shows when it was last updated; popular items refresh at least every 15 minutes. Rows gray out after 6 hours without fresh data and hide after 24 hours.
- BO5 may earn a commission from marketplace links.
How to get skins in CS2
You can get CS2 skins five ways: weekly drops, opening cases, trade-up contracts, the Armory, or buying them from another player on a marketplace.
Weekly drops
Leveling up your CS2 profile each week earns a care package, picked from a rotating drop pool.
Current drop poolCases and terminals
Opening a case needs a $2.49 key, and odds are fixed by rarity.
Best cases to openTrade-ups
Ten skins of one rarity from a collection give one skin of the next rarity up.
The Armory
Armory credits from the Armory Pass unlock some cases and limited collections.
Marketplaces
Buying directly is the only way to choose the exact skin, float and stickers.
